About Trip

Trekking in Darjeeling is world famous and it is truly an amazing place for doing magnificent activities like trekking ,rock climbing, hiking etc.and Everyone loves to go on a Himalayan trek when the temperatures are optimal during summer. But the monsoon trektoo is not as bad as people think. The trails are less crowded , the villages are full of life and the valleys are in bloom. You can enjoy the immaculate and lush green scenery of the mountainous region.

We here in Ashmita Trek and Tours organize lower altitude trek as the Singalila National Park is closed during the monsoon season from 16th June onwards 15th of September on account of heavy rainfall. This season is also the breeding season for animals. We do trek on the foothills of the Singalila National Park.

When trekking in forests in the lower altitudes one can expect a dense build up of fog and clouds. The rain however occurs at night leaving the sky clear by the morning and one can witness  the spectacular views of mountains and sunrise. The trekkers enjoy monsoon trekking for slightly different reasons like agricultural activities, luxuriant vegetation  available during the monsoon and a cooler climate. You can meet with the local people to explore their culture too.

                      Ajit, India - August 22, 2016

My wife and I decided to do a short monsoon trek in the eastern Himalayas (which we are completely unfamiliar with), and got Ashmita T&T's details from some website. Subashji got back quickly with an itinerary, and we were good to go.Our expectations were exceeded in every way, from beginning to end. We were met at Bagdogra by our guide Mr. Kunzang Sangay and a vehicle that was driven slowly and expertly by Mr. Tenzing (a great relief to be driven correctly), and dropped at Chitrey from where we went to Tumling, Dhotrey and back - 3 days walking.Mr. Sangay turned out to be an expert - a mountaineer himself and an instructor at HMI - and also a wonderful guide, and we enjoyed his company and his knowledge of the region, its geography and history, et al. We were lucky to have him with us.The visit ended with a night in Darjeeling and a drive back to Bagdogra on day 5 to catch our flight (again with Mr. Tenzing). We will do another walk in this region - possibly into Sikkim - and I am already looking forward to that.
