If you have ever told or read that the Everest base camp trek is a leisurely venture, then it's wrong. The Everest base camp trek demands effort, endurance, fitness, and determination. A beginner trekker can do an EBC trek, but he/she should be fit enough to walk long hours, adjust to simple meals and accommodations, be okay with limited modern facilities along the trail, and most importantly willing to complete the trek.
You can upgrade the package to a luxury Everest base camp trek as well. This is a special service that involves overnight stays in luxury lodges along the way. The trekking route and effort will be the same, but you will get to enjoy a much more comfortable overnight stay at the end of the trek every day.
Everest base camp trekking is an experience of a lifetime. Miles and miles away from your home, you will be traveling for 14 days in an unknown country that will lead you to one of the most extreme parts of the world. From the bustling city of Kathmandu, you will make your way through pristine alpine forests and beautiful Sherpa villages to the lap of the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest (8,849m).
And the trek kicks off with the thrilling Kathmandu Lukla flight. Our porters will join you in Lukla (2,846 m), and from here, you will begin trekking following the Dudh Koshi river and crossing it numerous times before reaching Namche Bazaar (3,440 m). The Sagarmatha National Park begins from Monjo (2,835 m), and you will be trekking within this national park for the rest of the trip.
Our Everest base camp trek itinerary has two acclimatization days with side hiking to Hotel Everest View (3,962 m) in Namche Bazaar and the Nangkartshang Peak (5,083 m) in Dingboche (4,410 m). Acclimatization is a crucial part of Everest base camp trekking. For your safety and success of the trek, we recommend you to not remove acclimatization days from the itinerary. In fact, these rest days will let you stop and allow you to spend more time with the locals.
The fresh Himalayan air, healthy meals, meaningful interactions, and 5-6 hours of walking each day will definitely make you feel better and healthier inside out by the end of the Everest base camp trek. As the villages begin to unfold day after day, you will come across ancient monasteries and numerous stupas where knowingly or unknowingly, you'll be healing your spirituality too.
From the adventurous part to the experience, the Everest base camp trek in Nepal is a blissful journey. The heartwarming hospitality of the locals and the steaming hot dal bhat and thukpa will humble you on this trek. The lush rhododendron forests open up to green meadows and glacier moraines as the trek progresses, along with making the mountains prominent.
A typical day on the Everest base camp trek
Amidst the changing scenery, mountains, and terrain each day, one thing that will remain the same during the Everest base camp trek 16 days is our daily morning and evening routine. Every morning, we will wake up early (around 6 AM to 7 AM) and have a warm breakfast before leaving the lodge. We will be placing orders for breakfast the night before to get it on time the next day.
We will then pack up our duffel bags that the porter will carry to the next village at his own pace. We carry a daypack with all of our essentials during the trek. The group leader will show the trail and explain the landmarks as we trek. We stop for lunch at a small settlement along the way and continue to trek until we reach the final destination of the day.
Upon reaching the lodge, we will unpack and rest. Order a warm dinner and relax before going back to bed. Each day in the evening, the group leader will also brief the upcoming day and the highlights during or after the dinner.
