Darjeeling Tonglu Day Hiking - 1 Day
The day hike near Darjeeling Valley calls for a 6 am wakeup time, and you will return to Darjeeling around 5 pm. Leaving the hotel, we drive 2.5 hours through Manebhanjyang to Dhotrey (8,500 feet). Enchanted by the colourful rhododendrons and forest flowers, we get off at Dhotrey full of excitement. Dhotrey is a scenic village perched among the terraced hillsides. Here, we have a filling breakfast and begin the journey through the dense forests to Tonglu (10,130 feet), which lies 6km from Dhotrey. Tonglu provides the best views of the trek. On a clear day, you can see two of the three highest peaks in the world (Mount Everest Family and Kanchenjunga). Bring your camera, because you might never get such dramatic mountain views like this again!
After savouring a nutritious local meal at Tonglu, we set off on our trek. The trail takes us downhill through Meghma, where we can visit the Buddhist monastery before continuing the hike to the village of Lamhaydhura. Here, a small community of local mountain residents resides. We take a brief tea break before resuming our journey. Chitrey is our final destination, approximately 9 kilometres from Tonglu. Upon arrival, we meet our driver and set out for Darjeeling, a one-hour drive, carrying with us cherished memories of our Tonglu day hike.

What Our Guests Say
We have just got back from the 2 day Tonglu trek with our fantastic guide, Rupesh. A beautiful location, walking from India to Nepal, great food and wonderful hospitality. We highly recommend Rupesh as a guide - he was warm, kind and knowledgeable.
We had a trek in the Himalayan foothills on the Nepal/India border with our wonderful guide Dawa Lama. Though the clouds ruined the view, Dawa was great and informative, it felt authentic to have breakfast and lunch in local mountain villages (tasty momos, soups, tea, curries and 'the best lime...
Truly special trekking. I did a one day, and the whole team were hugely professional, they kept in contact via WhatsApp before and then guided me through a magical day. We stopped along the way for warming food and chai, and the warmth of local hospitality. Can’t recommend these guys...
