Overview

Rise from your tent at High Camp (5200 meters) in the dark of night and prepare for the ascent of Lobuche Peak (6,119 meters). Strap on your headlamp and crampons and start trudging up the ridge. In the dead of night, all you can hear is the wind blowing and the crunch of the snow beneath your feet. As the first sight of light peeks over the mountains, we have a boost of energy. Climb the nearly vertical wall using the fixed rope and ice axe. Walk along the razor-thin ridge past the ‘false summit’ at 6090 meters and continue to the real summit at 6119 meters.

After hours of near-breathless climbing, we arrive to the top. It is a surreal feeling summiting a Himalayan peak, while looking down other peaks. From the top of Lobuche Peak, feast your eyes on Mount Everest (8848m), Lhotse (8516m), Ama Dablam (6812m), Nuptse (7861m), Pumori (7161m). Feel your spirits lifted as you stare out to the seemingly endless expanse of Himalayan peaks. The panorama of the highest mountains in the world will take your breath away – literally.  There are few greater thrills in the world than summiting a mighty Himayalan peak.

Before the climb even begins, we have a great Everest region trek to prepare us mentally and physically. We trek up through Phakding to Namche Bazaar, after an exhilarating flight from Lukla. Namche Bazaar is a thriving Sherpa town that has loads of bakeries, trekking shops, and guest houses. Further up is Tengboche Monastery, the largest of the Khumbu region, which is an amazing place to be during the Sherpa festival of Mani Rimdu in October. Monks wear elaborate masks and costumes while dancing to music.

Further, we make it to Everest Base Camp (5380 meters), an aspiration for trekkers and mountaineers around the globe. From here you can see the infamous Khumbu Icefall, though further up, at Kala Patthar (5545 meters), an even greater view is witnessed. Kala Patthar offers the absolute best close-up view of Everest. It is also a great acclimatization stop to prepare for the upcoming climb.

From Kala Patthar, we head to the desolate alpine village of Lobuche and then up to High Camp, setting up our camp and preparing for the upcoming unforgettable climb! Summit Lobuche Peak and have the experience of a lifetime while doing so! It is a moment you will cherish for the rest of your life.

It is possible to climb Lobuche Peak all throughout the year, though there are certainly better times than others. The most suitable times are spring (March to May) and fall (September to November). These seasons provide the best weather and the clearest views. Beyond that, the safest climbing conditions are during these times. Ashmita Trek and Tours arranges the climb with full management, including transportation, meals, etc. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have questions!
