Your journey to Darjeeling Sandakphu will begin today at 6:00 AM from our office. We will drive to Manybhanjang, which is the gateway to the Sandakphu trek.Upon arrival, we will complete the necessary entry formalities for passports and visas before commencing our trek to Tonglu. The trek to Tonglu is approximately 11 km and takes about 6-7 hours. We will ascend from 2,150 m to 3,070 m, passing through dense pine and rhododendron forests, local mountain villages, and a monastery. Upon arrival in Tonglu, if time permits, we will walk to a viewpoint to enjoy the mountain views and the sunset. Overnight accommodation will be in a basic need and cleen trekkers' huts.

It’s the second day of your journey. We'll start with an early wake-up call for a sunrise view from Tonglu viewpoint. If the weather permits, you'll witness breathtaking views of the Singalila and Chola ranges, along with Mount Kanchenjunga and the Everest range. After returning to Tonglu for your healthy breakfast, we'll begin our trek to Gairibas (approximately 7-8 km) through beautiful rhododendron forests. The trail will be a gentle downhill. We'll take a short tea break at Gairibas. Once you're refreshed, we'll continue towards Kaiyakatta, which is 2 km from Gairibas. This part of the trail includes a 1.5 km steep climb with steps cut into the mountain. After a 10-minute descent from the top, you'll reach Kaiyakatta, where we'll take another break. From Kaiyakatta, we'll continue our trek to Kalapokhari, about 4 km away, along a motor road where vehicles are not permitted.

You'll have the chance to spot various bird species on this trail. After about 1.5-2 hours, we'll reach a serene lake adorned with Buddhist prayer flags. After your healthy lunch, the trail begins with a gradual 30-minute ascent, followed by a steep climb for about an hour. Further, we'll trek on a motor road for the remainder of this 6 km stretch. Upon reaching the flat road of Bikeybhanjyang, you'll get a good glimpse of the Sandakphu summit, which is about 4 km ahead. The route to the summit is a clear zig-zag trail. After an hour-long climb, you'll reach the summit and be rewarded with a splendid 180° view of the Sleeping Buddha and other highest peaks in the world, including Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, Baruntse, Chamling, Chomolonzo, Machhapuchhare, and the Annapurna range extending to the West. Later, freshen up and rest. If time allows, we will go for another hike to see a beautiful sunset in the evening. You will be staying overnight at a teahouse or trekkers' huts.

We recommend waking up early to experience a stunning sunrise over the Himalayas from the Sandakphu viewpoint. If the weather permits, this will be one of the most scenic experiences you will have throughout the trek.You'll be treated to fabulous panoramic views of the Singalila and Chola ranges, Mount Kanchenjunga, the Everest range, and many other peaks, including the Bhutanese ranges.After returning to Sandakphu for breakfast, we will begin our approximately 14 km downhill trek to Gurdum.The route takes us via Hatter, a picturesque, tiny village and valley surrounded by dense forests of rhododendron, magnolia, and bamboo. Upon arrival, we will be staying at a Sherpa family-run homestay.

After a healthy breakfast today, we will begin our 6 km trek from Gurdum to Srikhola. This village is nestled amidst wild growths of magnolia, chestnuts, oaks, pines, and birches. A river runs through the area, making the atmosphere cooler and more vibrant. You can immerse yourself in the extraordinary scenery. Likewise, you may also witness wild birds and exquisite animals. You will reach Srikhola in approximately two hours of trekking. Srikhola, also known as Sirikhola, is named after a mountain stream (the word "khola" means stream). This experience is bound to transport you into an entirely different cosmos. At Srikhola, we will hop on our jeep and drive back to Darjeeling. This is another four-hour adventure. We will drop you off near the Ashmita Trek and Tours office location.

Accommodations During the Darjeeling Sandakphu Trek, provided in tea houses (trekkers' huts). Specifically, in Tonglu and Sandakphu, we will be staying in Government trekkers' huts on the Indian side. These huts offer basic amenities such as beds with blankets, quilts, and pillows. Some rooms have private, attached bathrooms, and hot water will be provided by bucket. Please note that electricity is limited.

In Gurudhum, you will be staying in a family homestay. This offers a wonderful opportunity to experience local hospitality and fosters a sense of togetherness among fellow trekkers. These homestays are popular for their affordability and cultural immersion.

The Sandakphu trek is a demanding high-altitude journey, requiring a significant amount of energy. To support you, we will ensure you have access to nutritious meals throughout the trek areas. That said, food options become more restricted at higher elevations. Our trek package includes regular breakfast, lunch, and dinner services, providing 4 breakfasts, 4 lunches, and 3 dinners over the course of the trek.

Your meals will primarily consist of local, Nepali, and Western dishes. We recommend you try Dal, Bhat, and Tarkari (vegetables), which are high in carbohydrates and offer ample energy for the trek. Due to hygiene concerns, we advise against consuming meat. It's advisable for you to bring along dry fruits such as raisins, dried figs, and dried apricots, as well as nuts like almonds, cashews, walnuts, and groundnuts.

Suggested Preparation :

  • Cardio exercises include running, cycling, jogging, push-ups, and pull-ups for about 4-5 days a week for 3 months before your trip will begin.
  • You should also be involved in developing core strength. and muscle endurance through weight training.
  • Hiking in the hills in different weather conditions will be good preparation for this trip.
  • If you have access, kayaking will also be a very good way to develop the strength and endurance required for this trip.

Best season for Sandakphu Trek The first season Spring ( March to May)  In the springtime, the colorful flowers are blooming like rhododendrons,orchids and magnolia flower. during the fall, the skies are usually clearer the temperature ranges from 8 - 14 degrees C°, and the second Season is after the monsoon starting from 15th September to early December the snow peaks show in their dazzling beauty in a clear blue sky when the temperature ranges from from - 5 to 6 degrees C° 

Note : that during the monsoon seasons the Singalila National Park is closed from mid 15 June to mid 15 September,

Gurudhum is the final spot where you will have access to a mobile network. Ensure you complete any crucial phone calls before arriving in Rimbeek, the commencement point of your trek. It is advisable to inform your family members about the poor connectivity during the trek. In the trekking region, except for Phalut, the tea houses and lodges offer limited internet. You can use Wi at these places to keep in touch with friends, family, and colleagues.

The temperatures be like during this Trek can be doen all throughout the year, though it’s much more pleasant in some weather conditions than others. The weather along the Sandakphu Trek depends on the season.  During the springtime (March to May), temperatures fall between 11-19 C° during the day and 2-10 C° at night. Monsoon temperatures are around 15-22 C° during the day and 7 to -1 C° at night. People tend to favor trekking in Autumn, when weather is moderate and skies are clear. In the daytime, temperatures range between 6-12 C° and 5 and -3 C° at nighttime.

Keep in mind, the Sandakphu weather is always unpredictable. In to time, a cloud can come and take away a mountain view, and a gust of wind can nearly knock you off your feet on a high pass. This just adds a little more adventure to the trek. Regardless of the season, you should pack several layers just in case.

You have the option to recharge your camera and mobile devices at the lodges for an additional fee. Likewise, you can purchase bottled mineral water along your journey. However, it's better to carry your own water bottle and for boiled water.

This practice helps reduce the number of plastic left in the trekking areas. So we advise you to carry water purification tablets. It's advisable to avoid drinking water from rivers or taps, as it may not be safe.

Tips do not form any part of the wages of guides, porters and other trekking crews. but they are expected by the porters, guide, Sherpa and cook. norm in Asian culture in the Himalayas means there is an expectation it is a nice way of saying thank you to someone who will play a large part in your trekking experience and who will prove invaluable to you on this trip. Our porters and guides will be paid more than working for other big tour and trek companies.
